Opening Spiel 2023
Congratulations to our winners:
Richard Lorway
Samantha Livingstone
Alison Grapes
Tyler Ellison
The Ray Cameron Memorial Spiel kicked off the 2023-24 curling season on November 3 with all eight participating teams seeing their first action and finished up on November 4 when each team would go on to play two more six-end games. The spiel was scheduled to be a three day event but was shortened and run over two days. Also on Saturday, curlers and guests were treated to lunch. After a hard fought two days that showed us some great curling action, the Richard Lorway rink came out on top, sporting a perfect 3-0 record and an impressive 33 points. Second spot was garnered by the Cal Thistle rink. While Thistle only one one game of the three, he mustered enough points , 25 in total, to edge out Keith MacEachern and Peter MacIntyre who would up with 24 points each, MacEachern taking third by plus minus tie breaker. Ironically, both MacEachern and MacIntyre defeated Thistle when they played head to head.
Joining Skip Richard Lorway in top spot was Samantha Livingstone, Alison Grapes and newcomer Tyler Ellison. Aiding skip Cal Thistle in the second place finish was Barb Thistle, Bob Smith and Valerie Evely while Keith MacEachern was joined by Bryant Cormier, Sandra Evely and Jane Matlock. Rounding out the top four finishers was Peter MacIntyre, Val MacIntyre, Sean MacPherson and Bernadette Cormier.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who took part, especially all the new curlers who decided to join us. Thanks also to everyone who helped organize and run the event, the ice crew for maintaining great conditions, bartenders and anyone else who helped out in any way. We hope to see you again next year for the Ray Cameron Memorial Spiel.
